Alex's Alliterative Adventures

Thoughts on Programming, Life, and Travel

I think I’m in the right country.

Danish law states that no one under 18 may buy alcohol in a bar or pub. However, you can be as young as 15 and still buy alcohol in a shop.

Danish people just generally seem to have things the right way around. Drivers are reasonably sane (if you don’t count parking on the sidewalk), traffic lights are obeyed nearly universally (even by pedestrians), and they have entire streets that are pedestrian only-zones. Bikes are way more popular over here than back home. I came to this conclusion after seeing a pregnant woman pass a car on her bicycle. There’s even a great deal set up for tourists.  You can get a reasonably crappy bike at a scattering of bike stands around the city for a deposit of 20kr, which is about $3 or $4 CAD.  When you’ve exhausted your cycling hunger, you can return the bike to a bike stand to get 20kr of your deposit back. For those of you who haven’t been following, that results in a free crappy bike. Anywhere.  Anytime.

I think I’m in heaven.

edit: My camera didn’t exactly survive the trip over. What do you recommend as a reasonably good, reasonably cheap digital camera?

    FREE BIKES?
How long do you think it would take to bike across the whole of Denmark?

Do they have cheese in a can, that stuff is the best, reminds me I am getting low, need to make a trip to the states…

Take some picture of some Swedish women and send ’em my way…

Alex, love the blog! I’ll check in regularly to see what adventures you’re up to. As for digital cameras, I’d always been a fan of Nikons. They have some excellent digitals called Coolpix that are worth checking into.

as awesome Gbaby’s camera is, i dont think 300 bucks counts as cheap in everyones books. meanwhile else where the Olympus 5.0MP comes in at a nice $139.99.

Hmm… sub 200 is the kind of cheap I was talking about.

Although I’ve found a new camera cable (maybe even one that works), I’ve fried the power adapter for my palm. Functioning electronics are my lifeblood, without them, I wither… I am weak…

wow.. so you can basically buy a bike for like 5 bucks? How bad are the bikes though?

  7. Alex August 18th, 2006 8:36 am

Well, if you’re dishonest, yes you can. So Kev, you can buy a bike for $5 😛 They’re really quite terrible, though, and rather hard to find.

haha..you think they would charge you some kind of fee for bike maintenance or something.

oh and for camera, any will do if you don’t mind the delays and using flash a lot (that’s if you’re really focusing on cheapness haha). As for picture quality, i think all the cameras have pretty decent quality now.. so it shouldn’t be an issue.

I find samsung to be cheap and durable, check some of those out.
